The question only stopped when I came across a different one, in a book Dr. Bruce Perry wrote with Oprah: what happened to you?

The patterns that keep us stuck — the people-pleasing, the overthinking, the numbing, the self-sabotage, the relationships that keep ending the same way — are not flaws in our character. They are the protections our nervous system built when we were small and the world was not safe. The brain is hierarchical: it learns survival first, emotion second, reasoning third. What was wired into you at three is not undone by what you understand at thirty. Not by force of will, not by reading another book about it.
The good news, the part neuroscience confirms, is that the brain is neuroplastic. It can change at any age, in any direction, with the right kind of attention applied over the right amount of time. That is what this course is.

For people whose nervous systems learned to survive in places that were not safe, and who have noticed that the strategies that kept them alive then are now in the way of the life they want to live.
It is for women and it is for men. Both come to this work, both belong in it, and both can do it.
It is not therapy and it does not replace therapy. If you are in active crisis, please find a therapist first and come back to this when you are stable. The course meets you where you are, but it cannot be the only thing holding you when things are sharpest. If you are ready to do the actual work — the reading, the practice, the journaling, the noticing — the version of you on the other side of these thirty lessons will not be the version you are now.
